Oonya Kempadoo, es una escritora nacida en el Reino Unido de padres guyaneses pero fue críada en Guyana y después estudió arte en Amsterdam. Vivió también en Trinidad y Tobago, St Lucia y ahora ha establecido su nuevo hogar en Grenada. Su primera novela, Buxton Spice fue publicado en 1998. Su segundo libro, Tide Running (Picador, 2001) se desarrolla en Plymouth, Tobago, y narra la historia de dos jóvenes hermanos. Ambos libros fueron nominados para el premio International IMPAC Dublin Literary en el 2000 y 2003. Fue nombrada como un gran talento para el Siglo XXI por los jueces del Orange Prize, así como también es ganadora del prestigioso premio Casa de las Américas.

Oonya Kempadoo is a writer who was born in the U.K. to Guyanese parents but was brought up in Guyana and then studied art in Amsterdam.  She has also lived in Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia, and now makes her home in Grenada.  Her first novel, Buxton Spice, was published 1998.  Her second book, Tide Running (Picador, 2001), set in Plymouth, Tobago, is the story of two young brothers.  Both of her books were nominated for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in 2000 and then in 2003.  She was named a Great Talent for the Twenty-First Century by the Orange Prize judges and is a winner of the prestigious Casa de las Américas Prize.
